Prepared by Bob Cohen, JMA President
So here we are….after two terms of office as the President of the Jewish Motorcyclists Alliance over a period of more than four years, three vice-presidents of the JMA, two secretaries of the JMA and one treasurer, some R2R’s that happened before Covid, no R2R’s since Covid…it all comes down to my final “Letter from the President.” While it has been some of the most unusual and challenging times of my life, if has also been some of the awakening times of my life. More on that later!
Ah yes….there was Covid One, Covid Two, Covid Three, Covid Four (and still counting). Those with masks and those without. Those who were vaccinated and those there were not. Ukraine versus Russia, Putin versus the rest of the world, a past president that challenged history, inflation, government politics, demonstrations of continued anti-Semitism and an overall heightened sensitivity of “stuff” going on worldwide that has effected each and every one of us in one way or another; both positively and negatively. I have learned that the more “stuff” you have, the more “stuff” you have.
There are a few things that have not changed at all. First, Club Members of the JMA just love to ride motorcycles. Second, Club Members of the JMA continue to support those organizations that support diversity with tolerance. And lastly, to be included in the many good things that have not changed…the JMA organization, including the Club Members of our JMA are some wonderful, down to earth people, many of which have become lifelong friends.
There are two major JMA/JMA Club events that will be upon us within the next 60 days. The first will be The Thou Shalt Ride Meet & Greet scheduled to begin Thursday, July 21, 2022, in the beautiful New York Finger Lakes region. For those that have never ridden in the Finger Lakes, you will be enjoying some of the most pleasant and peaceful riding venues that you can imagine. The second will be the 2022 San Diego Ride to Remember (R2R), Thursday, September 8th through the 11th, 2022. In addition to the outstanding programming of this R2R, the riding venues of the mountains, deserts and ocean side rides will be some of the most memorable.
Our new officers will be taking office at the JMA R2R event in San Diego. Our new president, will be Steve Aroesty from St. Louis, our new Vice President will be Danny Herbst from New York, our new Treasurer will be Lauren Secular from New York, and our continuing secretary with be Jay Mandelker from Toronto, Canada. Consistent with our JMA Bylaws, I will continue on the Executive Board of the JMA for another two years.
I want to thank each of you for providing me the opportunity to lead our organization these past years. The ideas and effort that you have put forth in event planning and choosing the “best” motorcycles routes were only surpassed by your hospitality and your creative energy. Thanks so much for contributing to the joy of being a Club Member within our JMA.
I look forward to seeing you at both the New York Finger Lakes Meet and Greet and the 2022 San Diego R2R. Let’s close the past years of “The Covids” with a celebration at these two events. Ride Safely!
