Great American Deli Schlep

Steve Goode, Jewish motorcyclist and member of the Chicago Chaiway Riders club, recently embarked on a solo, 14,000 mile national tour to eat at a Jewish delicatessen in almost every state while raising money for Mazon, The Jewish Response to Hunger. The fifth stop on his 75-day ride around the United States was at Cleveland's iconic Corky and Lenny's Deli in Beachwood on Sunday, June 7, where he was joined for lunch by 20 members of the local Jewish motorcycle club, the Cleveland Shul Boys.

Steve is a longtime supporter of Mazon's mission to ensure that vulnerable people have access to the resources they need to put food on the table. At Corky and Lenny's, he remarked that his "Great American Deli Schlep" is a way to indulge his love of long-distance motorcycling while performing a mitzvah. Every dollar he raises goes to Mazon's programs providing training and resources to anti-hunger organizations in the most food insecure states, maintaining a network of hundreds of partners and developing strategic initiatives to advance policies that end hunger and the systems that allow it to persist.

The Cleveland Shul Boys Club is one of 42 Jewish motorcycle clubs in the United States, Canada, Israel and Australia that make up the Jewish Motorcyclists Alliance. Goode will be joined in many cities, as in Cleveland, by JMA members who are offering home hospitality, deli companionship and financial contributions. Ian Abrams, Shul Boys founder and president, announced that the club plus a number of individuals had donated over $800 via the Great American Deli Schlep tour to help Mazon "educate and engage individuals and communities about the scope of hunger and how we can work together to end it."
